Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re dealing with damp, mould or heat‑loss issues, it’s natural to have questions.

These FAQs cover the most common concerns we hear from homeowners, landlords and tenants — all answered clearly and without jargon.

Understanding Damp, Mould & Condensation

What’s the difference between damp, mould and condensation?

Damp refers to unwanted moisture within the building fabric. Condensation is moisture from the air settling on cold surfaces. Mould is the biological growth that can occur when moisture persists. Each one has different causes — and a survey helps identify which is affecting your home.

Do I need a survey if I can already see mould?

Yes. Visible mould is a symptom, not the cause. A survey identifies the underlying moisture source so the issue doesn’t return.

Can you tell me whether the problem is structural or lifestyle‑related?

Yes. Our assessments are evidence‑based and identify the root cause, not assumptions.

About the Survey Process

What happens during a survey?

We carry out a structured assessment using moisture meters, thermal imaging, ventilation checks and environmental readings. You’ll receive clear explanations throughout.

Is the survey invasive?

No. All of our surveys are non‑invasive. We do not drill, remove plaster or cause damage. If an invasive investigation is ever recommended, we’ll explain why — but this is rarely needed.

How long does a survey take?

Most surveys take 1-2 hours depending on property size and complexity.

Do I need to prepare anything before you arrive?

Just ensure we can access all relevant rooms. No special preparation is needed.

Reporting & Results

What will I receive after the survey?

You’ll receive a clear, evidence‑based report outlining findings, causes and recommended next steps.

How quickly will I get my report?

Reports are usually delivered within 3–5 working days.

Will your report help with landlords, insurers or housing associations?

Yes. Our reports are independent, evidence‑based and suitable for formal communication. As an RPSA Technical Member, our findings follow recognised surveying standards.

Costs, Areas & Booking
